Dragon Age: The Veilguard

(ugh, that title change though) is almost here. Thankfully. There was a bit of a freak-out after

, but a solid

has calmed most of our nerves. However, the big question remains: can it really stand apart from Baldur's Gate 3?

In my bold opinion, it kind of already has. Sure, Larian's RPG masterpiece looms large whenever Dragon Age is mentioned (I mean,

I even linked them last year

), but recent previews and gameplay footage suggest we're looking at a unique RPG doing its own thing.

According to our own

hands-on preview

, Alex hinted that "Dragon Age: The Veilguard is going to be a lot of things to a lot of people." That statement pretty much nails the essence of this unorthodox series. Claiming that Dragon Age hasn't evolved (or, let's be honest, devolved) with each entry is just plain wrong. Go revisit Inquisition, Dragon Age 2, and Origins if you doubt it.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Commentary - Can it Stand Out?

Alright, let's talk

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

. Despite my utter disdain for the title change (seriously, who's responsible for that?), the upcoming release has everyone buzzing.

We can’t talk about Veilguard without mentioning

Baldur's Gate 3

. Larian's RPG juggernaut set the bar sky-high, and it's nearly impossible to evade that shadow.

Yet, can Veilguard hold its own? From what we’ve seen in the

early previews

and gameplay demos, it’s clear BioWare is carving out a distinct path.

Comparisons aside, Veilguard seems to take a refreshing leap. The new gameplay mechanics and immersive world-building genuinely set it apart.

Even though the

hands-on preview

by Alex hints at it being a mixed bag, that’s what we adore about the Dragon Age series. It’s wild, unpredictable, and always evolving.

If anyone thinks Dragon Age hasn’t changed over the years, they need to revisit

Inquisition

,

Dragon Age 2

, and

Origins

. The series morphs with each entry, much to the fans' delight or dismay. But that's part of the charm, right?

While Baldur's Gate 3 might feel like the reigning champ,

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

isn't here to play second fiddle. It's poised to offer a unique RPG experience that’s distinctive and, dare I say, rebellious.
