Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree - A New Horizon in Gaming

Hello, fellow gamers! So there's this tiny thing happening this week that you *might* not have heard about: a little expansion called Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Breaking Records and Taking Names

Within a day of the reviews rolling out—before its June 21 release date no less—it’s already become the highest-rated game of 2024 and the highest-rated DLC ever on Metacritic. Talk about making waves! It’s almost as if Miyazaki and his crew said, "Hold my beer," and then proceeded to knock it out of the park with ludicrous proficiency.

Considering the sky-high expectations that fans had for this expansion, FromSoftware has pulled off something nothing short of a miracle. Seriously, it's hard to add *more* accolades to a game that's already won Game of the Year. I mean, let's face it, how much higher can they go? But here we are—it's a feat so impressive it could easily spark debates about whether giving more of something everyone already loved justifies another GOTY award.

Metacritic Mania

If you're the type who scours Metacritic to quote during heated discussions with friends (ahem, guilty!), you’ll be delighted to see Shadow of the Erdtree's critic score sitting pretty at a whopping 95. And yes, a review from our own crew at VG247 is proudly part of the 56 professional critiques contributing to this stellar average.

Let’s be real, after this long waiting for the expansion, I think I speak for a lot of gamers when I say we're ready to dive back into the Elden Ring universe. The bar was already set impossibly high, yet it seems FromSoftware has effortlessly vaulted over it. If you need me on June 21, you know where I'll be—immersed in the lush, hauntingly beautiful landscape of Shadow of the Erdtree.

Until then, happy gaming!
